We're At The Tipping Point

I'm writing this realizing that I will probably ruffle some feathers in doing so.......

Let me as a question: Are we committed to doing everything we need to CREATE A SEAT for the youth and diversity crowd at the conservative table?......this question WILL determine whether or not we can turn this ship around in November and beyond.

Last night I sat in on a phone conversation of 30 + leaders of the conservative movement. As the conversation unfolded my heart began to sink. There was a gentleman on the line who was trying to appeal to these leaders about an “opportunity” he had for them....which was really more of an opportunity for him to exploit them and the large numbers of people they had the ability to mobilize, and benefit his business in the process. Throughout the course of the discussion, as several of these leaders chimed in, it became glaringly apparent to me WHY the youth, in most cases, see the conservative movement to be an aging group of white people who are not interested in really reaching out to them and taking the message and the heart of the movement to THEM....spoken in THEIR language.....in a way that THEY can make this message their own. Here we are having rallies expecting that by osmosis, they will see that we are right and worth joining.

Yes, there are those few young people that come to the rallies because their parents are conservative....I hate to be the bearer of bad news...that's not enough.
We've got to wake up and understand that until WE begin to truly empower the youth with truth, so that THEY can be the ones to challenge their peers...THEY can become the activists.....THEY can debate their liberal friends on the issues and really understand why conservatism is a good thing and not just something their parents said was right. If we don't… we may as well give up now!

Look around you at the next rally you go to.....it's not rocket science to figure out that most folks there aren't going to be around forever....none of us are. We need to make it our #1 priority to back up and support young people in art, music, comedy, acting, blogging, YouTubing, etc., who are using their talents to bring positive messages to their peers. IF we don’t, this movement will die with us! We need to stop assuming that simply because our message is one of truth, they will just jump on board on its merit alone.

“Generation WE” speaks a different language. They have been educated with different information and very different points (plural) of reality than the generations before them. It is not ONLY the job of the parent to make sure this happens; it is our responsibility to foster ways for them to grow in their knowledge and passion regarding absolutes. We need to help them see the beauty of boundaries, the necessity for integrity in both a private and a public life. They are watching us. They know when our words match our actions and more important….when they don’t.
We need to pass on to them the importance of speaking the truth with love and compassion for those who are without it. They need to hear us defend justice without slander and malice for those who disagree. They need to see that we as adults understand and respect that they view life differently and are moved in ways that we may not be.

It is really no different than kids that have grown up in the church and are worn thin of it. They're looking for something real. They want something that they can latch on to that will carry them through the roughest patches of life and NOT just lip service on Sunday and Wednesday. They need to know that the things they are living for are worth dying for.

We are at a tipping point. If we choose not to actively find ways to reach out the youth and minority groups, we WILL lose this battle. Our financial arsenal is nowhere near the size of that of the left. Liberals have understood for a very long time that the battleground is in the creative. They have used movies, television, radio and a host of other mediums to gradually boil these innocent frogs in the pot. There are entertainers, musicians and other artists who understand this and are fighting liberals on this battleground. Our most precious resource in this nation is not oil, or gold, or a stable economy…..it is our children. As a conservative community are we willing meet the left on this battleground, or will their cleverly packaged message drown out the sound of truth?

The Broad Spectrum of Conservative

The more I read and listen, the more I realize how much broader of a spectrum makes up what one might consider conservative or “right-wing”. Liberty is granted by One Source alone and cannot be delivered by any entity or human being. The far right, operating on only certain select principals of our Founders, without the temperance of humility and honor of our God who gave us these inalienable rights, will do just as much damage to our country and to their neighbor as those who seek to destroy from the left.

There seems to be a growing frenzy and almost palpable excitement for a “revolution” and I do NOT think we really understand what that would mean. I also don’t believe that we all mean the same thing when we say “revolution.

We must be so careful that the cause of “saving our country” or “defeating the left” doesn’t eclipse the greater mission here. Souls are at stake. While I believe with increasing passion that we are to occupy this land for as long as we are here, without an absolute knowledge that we have NO victory without a turn towards God, who has protected us and ALLOWED us to live in freedom. As we all know, this is changing quickly. Some of these changes are glaringly egregious, and others are more insidious and concealed.

May we not think so highly of our own intellect or resolve that we even attempt to take on the enemy without seeking the Divine Protection that our Forefathers knew they were hopeless without. This means getting our own internal “house in order”. The enemy knows our weaknesses and will use them against us, and each other, if we do not do the business with God we ought to do. If we are right with Him, we can stand confidently and fight whatever is coming with full assurance that the outcome is already known and our hope is secure.
